A visit to BLKM, is equivalent of stepping back in time to witness history, traditions, and heritage of Rajasthan. Since its inception in 1952, the institute has worked towards study, research, preserve and promote the folk culture and the local festivals of Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh.
BLKM’s repertoire includes activities ranging from traditional music and dance, performance arts, puppet shows, woodcraft, rural communication, art & craft, and research & development.

Located in the heart of the city, BLKM is easily accessible from Udaipur’s main railway station and bus stand. It is also close to Udaipur‘s City Palace, which is a major tourist attraction. Visitors can easily patch on a visit to BLKM as part of their existing itinerary and catch frequently held folk and puppet theatre performances without adding any additional time to their day plan.
Once at the museum, it takes just about an hour to cover the entire facility. But even in that short time, so much can be covered.

I have seen the work of Padmshri Devilal Samar in 3rd International Puppet Festival at Bucharest in the Year 1965 where he got 1st prize in traditional puppet and keen to know the activities of Bhartiya Lok Kala Mandal, Udaipur.
The most distinguished troupe of Indian puppets we have met abroad. The troupe amazed the French public with its skill.
The items were very much appreciated for their genuine character, simplicity originality and colourfulness.
They commanded audience attention through sheer vitality, impressive technical skill and silk production methods.
The Mandal presented to the public of Delhi, the rich tradition of folk art to be better known all over the country.
